I’ve got Boxycharm‘s January box to share with you, a bit late, but it’s been a madhouse with my mini’s birthday right on the heels of the holidays. That said, let’s get into the goods!
Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Spray
I couldn’t have rolled my eyes any harder than when I saw yet another dry shampoo sample. Sigh. Again, the little’s hair is in braids, so I couldn’t really try it out. I used some on one of my wigs, and because it’s synthetic, the only things I can tell you are that the shampoo smells fantastic, and that the powder coating is pretty minimal. I’ve no idea what condition it’d leave actual hair in.
Adesse Ultra Suede Matte Top Coat
This one top coat is a no, for me. The good is that it dries quickly. It also applies nicely, with a formula that’s not too thin or too thick. Why I don’t care for it is that it doesn’t dry to a hard matte finish. Once dry, it’s more of a satin or semi-matte. I tried it over a polish containing flakies, which is probably my favorite finish to mattify. The top coat did enhance the flakies, but it’s still got some shine. I started to try adding a second coat, but for actual wear, ain’t nobody got time for that, and I’d never do it. In the lower set of photos, I purposely didn’t oil my cuticles, so you can see the sheen. I’ve got a $2 drugstore top coat that’s more matte than this one. If you’re into satins, you’d like this top coat, but I like extremes; for me, it’s got to be glossy or matte.
pür Cheek Stain in Prosecco
I got a little nervous when I saw the vivid red of this stick, but it can be pretty subtle, depending on how it’s applied, and it can be used on a wide variety of skin tones. I like its ease of blending, and the color turned out to be pretty nice, too. I’m new to wearing blush, as I always figured it was unnatural on my dark skin. Before a few weeks ago, I had a total of two blushes, one bronze and one in a deep berry, figuring those were the only colors I could wear. I’m finding a new affinity for blush, though, and am enjoying playing with brighter colors, too. This cheek stain is a beautiful wine color, leaning slightly more red than burgundy. I absolutely love it! It goes on sheer, but can be built up very easily. This is great because I can wear it for day or I can wear it at night and make it dramatic by adding a couple extra swipes of the stick. It also has a light, fruity scent, too, like wine!
Vintage Illuminating Highlight Set
You may have seen that the November 2016 box contained a Vintage highlighter in the color Rose Gold. This set includes two different highlighter colors, Rose Quartz and Chocolate Diamond. This set offers the same great formula, and I really like it. I’m still pretty inept at the whole highlighting thing, but I love trying! I like that there are two colors for two different effects, and I’ve had fun mixing them, too. Powder takes getting used to, for me, but I like these, and love that they’re not cakey or dry-looking on my brown skin. I used Rose Quartz on my cheeks, chin, nose and forehead, but had a hard time capturing it with my crappy lighting (and crappier skills!).
Crown Deluxe Highlight Fan Brush
How appropriate! I have a brush problem, and am trying (unsuccessfully) to stop buying brushes. What happens is that instead of cleaning them as I use them, I just grab another, then I look up and have a pile of thirty brushes to clean. I really like this one, though. It’s a little stiffer and thicker than my other fan brushes, giving me more control over my highlighter. I lost a couple bristles in cleaning it for the first time, but haven’t lost any since. It’s incredibly soft, and is already one of my favorite brushes of this type.
Overall, I’m mostly happy with this box; the one thing that really gets my goat is the shampoo. I will be canceling some of my subs, though, for that reason. While the mystery is a thrill, I’ve just tired of getting products I can’t use in boxes I can’t customize. I’m not sure that I can let go of my Boxycharm subscription, though, because I’ve mostly been quite happy with what I’ve gotten. I’ve discovered some brands and products that I find myself reaching for again and again. This box, besides that one product, is a definite yes. Additionally, the total value of this box is $114.99! If you’d like to check out the products or find out more about Boxycharm, you can find it here.
Were there any products in this box you’d consider using? Were any of them a hard no?
Thanks for reading!
