I’m back with May’s Glossybox review, and eek! I’m late! I’ve been so much into playing with my indies I’ve neglected all my boxes, so I’ll go ahead and get into it!
Mystery Shampoo and Conditioner
I’ll start with the shampoo and conditioner, which I normally hate getting, but they were a mystery bonus, and don’t count toward my my box’s contents. Plus, they’re good, and both smell terrific. Granted, I could only use them on my daughter or my wigs, but the little liked the last samples I had. Turns out, she likes this formula, too. Her hair is just as soft, but her coil pattern isn’t as tight or as well-defined as with the last samples. This signals to me that one of these products is less moisturizing than the last ones we tried, but when asked if I should just use it on my wigs, the little said that she likes it and wants to keep it.
Vitry Nail Repair Care Hardener
I’m always down for a nail hardener since I don’t polish every day like I used to. I’ve only had it on for four days now, so I haven’t seen a ton of new growth, but I like the application and finish. It dries quickly, and while it doesn’t have a super-glossy finish, it’s still shiny. It provides a nice “my nails, but better” look that I like. Even after four days, I barely see any wear, which is rare for me. Usually, unless I’ve done a whole top and base coat manicure, nothing lasts beyond 2-3 days on me. It dries quickly, too, which is a plus with any nail product. I also like that at $8, it’s a product I can afford on a regular basis if I decide I want to keep using it.
This color isn’t necessarily my cup of tea, but even I have to admit it’s really pretty. It’s a red-leaning magenta that actually looks quite striking and is wearable for anyone. It has the same excellent Leighton Denny quality that I’m used to. It’s thin, so it will flood your cuticles if there’s too much polish on the brush, but it goes on smoothly and dries to a high shine. It’s not a color I’d have chosen, as it’s a bit too…civilized for my tastes, but it looks great, and is a nice addition to my collection. I’ll wear it, but I’d probably do some stamping or art to make it more unique.
Rodial XXL Lip Liner in Nude
Okay, you see the color of this lip liner…what am I supposed to do with this? I checked dark as my skin tone, and this is the best you could do, Glossybox? Come on, now. I often mix lip colors in order to make use of shades that might be too light, but a liner isn’t a lippie. What am I supposed to line with this? Luckily, my daughter can wear it with ease, but this shade merited an immediate eye roll from me. I will say that the formula is creamy, smooth, and pretty darned fantastic…which only serves to tick me off even more because a suitable color would have been so very nice. Sigh.
Skinn Cosmetics Bronze Goddess Eyeshadow and Blush Palette
This is a really nice palette, full of neutral colors that can be worn every day or smoked out for nighttime looks. The formula is nice and soft, and the colors contain a decent amount of pigmentation. The colors are mostly shimmery metallics. The only color that didn’t show up so well on me was the darkest in the palette, a shimmery charcoal shade. The blush is a pretty pink suitable for a wide range of skin tones, including my own. It’s a very nice palette, and I like the quality enough that I’d buy more colors. The colors in this palette, though, are more suited to my daughter’s taste, because they’re not quite wild enough for me. She’s super into neutral shades, and I know she’ll be happy to get this palette.
Spa To You Deep Pore Cleansing Facial Brush and Massager
I didn’t have high hopes when I saw all sorts of wonky bristles, but this brush is very soft. I actually like it more than anything else in this month’s box, even though, at $9, it doesn’t have a large price tag. It feels really good on my face, and my skin feels good after using it. I also find I’m less likely to go overboard on the exfoliation than with the battery-operated brush I normally use, and my skin seems less angry. Out of the box, this is the item I’m most likely to repurchase.
Nutraluxe MD Retro Brow Prime and Extend Duo in Medium/Dark
I got this as a free gift because I’d cancelled my subscription and restarted it when I realized how close I am to the free box, haha. I can’t do anything with this but give it to the little, because, yeah…I have no brows. The premise behind this product, though, is the same as with a 3D mascara; it contains two products, a wet product that you apply first, and then fibers that stick to it, creating the illusion of fuller hair. I got this knowing I’d be giving it to her, and with her light touch, they look nice and natural.
While this box isn’t my favorite, I think the value is excellent and I think most people would like it. If my tastes weren’t so over-the-top, I’d definitely appreciate the nail polish and palette more, because both are very obviously of high quality. The facial brush and nail hardener are the most useful things for me, and despite their lower value, as compared to the other items, their combined value is nearly the price of the box, so, I can’t complain! If you’d like to know more about Glossybox and how it works, you can find it here.
Is there anything in this box that you’ve tried before? Is there anything you’re curious about?
Thanks for reading!
