Hi, all!

It’s that time, and I’m on the ball with June’s ipsy Glam bag review! In case you’re not familiar, ipsy is a customizable beauty subscription priced at $10 per month. It provides an assortment of 5 full- and deluxe-size products packaged in a reusable cosmetics bag. Now, then…on to the goods!

The bag

This month’s bag is a cute and sturdy canvas bag in a neutral beige with lighter-colored polka dots. For an element of fun, its side is printed with a set of red-lacquered lips…it’s adorable!

NYX Whipped Fouetté Lip and Cheek Soufflé

I like this soufflé, though I found it took some getting used to. It’s a brown-toned pink that makes a very nice nude on me. I find it comfortable to wear and flattering as a blush. On my lips, it dries to a somewhat odd finish; it’s not a satin, and it’s not a matte. It feels almost…rubberized. It’s a soft finish, and the only way I can describe it is that it feels like it wants to be matte but doesn’t quite make it. It does transfer, but wears evenly, so it doesn’t look strange. I have to admit, it had to grow on me, but I am liking it more and more, and it doesn’t dry my lips or break out my face. Swatch below.

BioRepublic Skincare Sheet Masks (2)

I received an Aloe Rescue revitalizing mask and Green Tea Detox purifying mask. They’re a good size, but the slits are too long and oddly placed, so they take more untangling than I like to smooth out. They contain a good amount of liquid, so they don’t dry up before the treatment is done. The aloe mask did a good job of soothing my slightly irritated skin after I’d exfoliated. The liquid is quite sticky, and feels similar to using pure aloe from the plant. It felt a bit unpleasant, but my skin was soft. I liked the green tea mask much more. I felt a slight tingle, but no irritation, and it left me feeling moisturized but not sticky. Both did a good job of softening my skin, especially in troubled areas like my chin. Where it’s usually scabby, scaly, or flaky, my skin is nice and soft, even at the end of the day. I’d definitely use the green tea mask again. I’d consider using the aloe mask, but while I wouldn’t rinse my face, I’d definitely wipe off some of the excess product for comfort’s sake.

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil in M-10 Matte Black

I was disappointed that I got this pencil, because I’ve learned that MUFE is not a cruelty-free company. It was my fault, though, because I hadn’t updated my profile since deciding to switch to cruelty-free products and use up the non-CF products I had already. I did remove quite a few brands, so hopefully it works, though it makes me sad because I love their HD foundation. 🙁 This liner is touted as being waterproof, but it washes off easily enough, which is nice. It takes a few minutes to set, which I don’t necessarily mind, but until it dries, it has a tendency to smudge very easily. For me, my hooded lids and folds, this liner is raccoon eyes waiting to happen. It’s perfect for a smoked-out look, but isn’t my choice for a more precise look, because its softness almost guarantees errors. It being waterproof doesn’t matter if it’s soft and smudgy anyway. City Color Cosmetics Shimmer Shadow in Cheers to Life

I like gold shadow and wear it often, but I can’t say I needed another. ipsy sends me a lot of gold/taupe eyeshadows, even though I’m pretty sure I have only the “adventurous” box checked in the survey. Y’all know me…when do I ever do neutral? It is a very good shadow, though, with a buttery, smooth texture that isn’t the least bit chalky. In fact, it’s so soft and smooth it feels almost like a cream. It applies like a cream, too, and blending it is effortless. I wish I’d gotten a more exciting shade, though. Swatch below.

PÜR Cosmetics Fully Charged Magnetic Mascara (mini)

First, this is a good-sized mini with an adequately sized brush. Its selling point is that it’s made out of magnets (I have no idea how that works!) that thicken, lengthen, and separate lashes. It does thicken and lengthen, but left my lashes sticking straight out, despite curling them. My lashes do grow out straight, but while I always have an unruly lash, I had four or five…on one eye! I don’t know what the deal is with that (are the magnets repelling each other, or what???), but I found it odd and a bit frustrating. Maybe an additional coat would help, and I’ll try that, because this mascara did a good job of making my lashes look longer. It didn’t give any problems during removal, either. I’m going to try it again, because if I can prevent the straightening of the lashes, this mascara would be a go-to product for me. Please let it work!

The verdict

Overall, this was a pretty good bag. I liked all but one product, the eyeliner. Even if it was cruelty-free, I still don’t like its performance. Everything else is something I like, and if I can get my lashes tamed with this mascara, I’ll definitely be buying it in full-size. Everything else is something I wouldn’t mind using or purchasing, so I’d say this month’s bag is a win. If you’d like to check out ipsy, you can find out more here.

Have you tried any of these products? Are there any you’d skip?
