Another late post here (and more to come!), but I wanted to share my May Cult Crushes box from Ricky’s NYC. This subscription includes a selection of products based on a different theme for $11 USD each month. This month’s theme is Spring Fever. Here’s what I got!
Blossom Lip Gloss in Cherry
This roller bottle of gloss is beautiful to look at, and is infused with real flowers! This one is cherry-scented, and its fragrance is strong and a bit cloying to me, but dissipates quickly. I notice that this gloss contains mineral oil, which is not my favorite ingredient. I may use it just because it’s pretty, but it’s not a product I’d repurchase.
Bioderma Sensibio H2O
I’m crazy about a good micellar water, and this one fits the bill. It does a great job of removing the dirt and makeup residue I can’t see. My favorite thing about it is that the alcohol content is lower than most micellar waters, so it’s even less drying and very gentle. It also does a bang-up job of removing stubborn waterproof eye makeup.
RickyCare Cotton Squares
I use cotton pads every day, so I was happy to get these. They’re nice and thick, and I like them better than my normal cotton rounds for cleaning my face. They hold more liquid and do a more thorough job. On the other hand, they’re a little linty, so I don’t like them as much for things like wiping off my palettes and tools. That’s fine with me, because I like their plushness and would rather use them on my face anyway. I thought this was a convenient and thoughtful addition to the micellar water.
LASplash Diamond Dust in Smoky Quartz
This glitter is a very pretty mix of copper and gold. I’ve tried a couple products from LASplash that I’m quite fond of, and this is no exception. It’s a pretty and very fine glitter. I’m pretty clueless about using glitter, but I’ve got a few I’ve been wanting to try. I patted some over E.L.F. glitter glue just to try it. I really like it, and since it’s not the nightmare I expected, I’ll be trying it on my face.
NYX Bright Idea Illuminating Stick in Chardonnay Shimmer
I’m always leery of silvery highlighter because of the “ash factor”, and I think this champagne color leans a bit too silver for me. I wish it had a tad more gold in it. The formula, though, is fabulous. It’s soft, creamy, and easy to blend. The left swatch is how it looks when applied, and the right is blended out. Can you see what I mean? It just makes me look ashy, and with my dry skin and eczema, I can look ashy all on my own, for free, lol. It looks great, though, as an inner corner highlight, however, I think I’ll give it to my daughter, whose much lighter skin might make this a better fit.
All in all, this was a pretty good box. My favorite things were the glitter and micellar water, and the cotton pads, while not a huge deal, are still a handy addition. While I the illuminating stick isn’t my ideal shade, I like the formula, and plan to buy at least two of the shades available. The gloss is the only thing I don’t care for, really, so I consider this month’s box a huge win. If you’d like to know more about Ricky’s NYC’s Cult Crushes box, you can find out more here.
Was there anything you’d use in this box? Was there something you wouldn’t?
